Like my grandfather I spent my childhood in Weyer in the Ennstal in Upper Austria, then I began studying medicine at the University of Vienna.  In December 1996 I graduated with a doctorate in medicine, for which I wrote a dissertation titled “Correlation of colour contrast sensitivity with topographic optic disc parameters of the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph in ocular hypertensive patients.”  I have obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Community Emergency Medicine. As a scientific research associate of the University of Vienna’s eye clinic I am the co-author of the following ophthalmologic studies:
