The
style of the highly talented automotive artist Michael
Jekot can best be described as
neo-representational and makes a strong case against
photo-realism. His narrative on canvas focuses on the
balance of power between man and machine, which is
enhanced by creating strong contrasts between
personality and mechanical surfaces. The use of these
together suggests the struggle between human desires and
the unyielding order of sheer physics while imposing a
bit of humanity onto an otherwise harsh reality.

"Das
War Der Anfang/In the beginning". Acrylic on canvas, 36 inches by 36 inches, square.
The
painting shows the role Erwin Komenda played in the design and
engineering of the Porsche type 356.
That from very humble beginnings his designs on paper translated to
aluminum cut from patterns, hammered over wooden bucks, was only the
beginning of a "touchstone" for designers that can still be
seen today - Porsche design. In the piece the viewer sees a very proud young Komenda,
holding a rolled plan for some part yet to be worked out, leaning on the
wood buck for production of a prototype in progress. He seems to know
the success of this project even before it is finished. His eyes are
clear, as he looks headlong into the future of the enterprise, feet planted strongly in
the present of his day. This image is laid over a frame image of a
partial drawing the last body design in this series.
